John Legend - Rolling In The Deep [Adele Cover]

such extreme amazingness, i love him. (& I love her.)

Reminiscent of a Negro spiritual.

Are you really 20 years of age? I find that hard to believe. You truly do have an old soul. Which I can relate to seeing as I've been told the same thing by my peers...But, your poetry is amazing sir... I do need to see a performance in person. It brings me joy to know there is another Brooklynite in BK that has their head on their shoulder. Allow me to introduce myself, my name is Kyle Norville. I too am from Brooklyn(Bed-Stuy living currently). I too am a poet (poemsforthemoment.tumblr.com - shameless plug) and I am inspired by not only your poetry fam, but just the fact that you're doing your own thing. With no desire to conform or fit in. Keep it up!

Kyle, I thank you wholeheartedly for such thoughtful, encouraging words. I recently turned 21, however I am a firm believer that one’s age does not always prove to be a reflection of lessons learned from experience or lack thereof. I choose to receive my wisdom from above and that has molded me into who am I. Once again, thank you. May you keep writing in order to enlighten, inspire and invoke emotions within others. Last but not least…BK ALL DAY! I’ll definitely check out your tumblr. Peace.

“Lasers simply sounds bad, playing against every single one of Lupe Fiasco’s strengths and creating new weaknesses. Surveying the current pop-rap landscape and retaining nothing worthwhile, it’s at once chaotic, bored, and yet unyieldingly abrasive— overblown, forced choruses, rawk guitar tracks that had to be laid down by a guy with a ponytail, mixing as subtle as a nu-metal record. There’s a guy on several of these songs singing putrid hooks through what sounds like vocal filters retrieved from Dan Deacon’s recycle bin— he’s named MDMA. This is a coincidence of cosmic proportions.” —Ian Cohen’s Review Of “Lasers” For Pitchfork. (via modrockers)

Lupe Fiasco is on my list of top 5 favorite rappers but this review rings true regarding “his” latest album.

I liked what you wrote for the aspiring poet. I've been writing for more than half my life and it's only within the last 2-3 years that I've performed in open mics on island. The feedback is always amazing, and it is when you're out there that you realize how good you are as a poet and it pushes you to be better. Anyway, if you have time check out my work on http://kimolisa.blogspot.com.

Thank you for your comment. I once read somewhere that feedback is a part of one’s art. With that said, I agree that poets don’t realize how gifted they are until they witness how their expressions can affect lives in various ways. Keep writing. I have your blog on another tab as i write this response so i’ll definitely be checking out your work. Thanks for sharing.

I am an aspiring poet. Spoken word & written. Is it hard to find spoken word gigs? Or even make a living off of your poetry? Do you have a job on the side to balance & just do poetry in your freetime? Any advice or input would be helpful. Thankyou.

Hey there! Gigs aren’t hard to find if you want to do an open mic. Personally, I’m not a professional poet but when there is an opportunity for me to share my creative ability I like to do so. However, as an aspiring poet I want to encourage you to allow everything around you to be a basis for inspiration. Observe and provide eloquent commentary.

Man, I really gotta give it up to you. I just saw the Sartorial Sounds video a couple of minutes ago, and I really feel it's going to be life changing. Life changing in the way where when I wake up from now on I'm going to have a completely different perspective of myself, and what it means to be a creative individual. Major inspiration. :)

I thank you tremendously! The idea behind Sartorial Sounds is to do just that. Inspire people to cultivate their creativity and do something genuinely positive. I hope that you do wake up one day and find that talent lurking within you to share that inspiration in return. All the best!
